Oh, and if you’re pregnant and your fetus dies “of natural causes” in utero, you also have to undergo an ultrasound and listen to a verbal description. Classy!

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Anti-union, corporations are people, right to work states, Citizens United, lower the minimum wage, tax cuts for the wealthy, austerity for the rest of us, outsource jobs to third-world countries, buy more lobbyists - buy more tax code, lower corporate taxes, deregulation, Caymen Island tax shelters, lay off employees for higher CEO bonuses…
BYU Honor Code
Utah: A student at Brigham Young University received what she thought was a love note Tuesday night, but was actually a letter questioning her compliance with the Brigham Young University Honor Code.
Am I the only one that thinks this guy needs to be called out for attempting to slut shame her? Look at what she’s wearing. I’ve seen grade school teachers dressed more provocatively.
I understand that this is BYU and an isolated incident on that campus, but what he has done is essentially told her that if she were to be sexually harrassed or assaulted it would be her fault, and not his for being unable to control himself. The fact that everyone is all giggles and smiles in this report highlights society’s response to slut shaming. Yes everyone agrees that he’s being ridiculous, but no one addresses the fact that these messages are often sent to victims for sexual assault. If she were walking around campus in a bikini and he was unable to control himself, that would also be about him.
There is nothing wrong with dressing conservatively. There is nothing wrong with dressing provocatively. I should be able to wear whatever I want, whenever I want. If someone appreciates the way I’m dressed, there’s also nothing wrong with that. If you don’t like what I’m wearing for you own personal and moral reasons, keep it to yourself. If you don’t like what I’m wearing because my outfit moves you past appreciation to acts of sexual inappropriateness, then YOU are the one with the problem. I know it may seem to some as if I’m making a big deal out of something that happened at a Mormon University, but the fact that it made the news moved it past the campus. These messages transcend a university dress code and roll over into the real world every single day.
