Someone recently asked me about jury nullification in regards to Marissa Alexander…I thought I gave a good rundown and covered all the bases, but then it occurred to me: jury nullification happens all the time

We’re just conditioned not to think of it as such when the beneficiaries are White and the victims are Black

I’m talking about verdicts like those handed out by jurors who managed to find Emmett Till’s murderers not guilty. I’m talking about the jurors who acquitted four LAPD officers for savagely beating Rodney Kingeven after it was caught on film. And I’m talking about the jury that found the NYPD not guilty of murdering Amadou Diallo…and the jury who let Oscar Grant's murderer walk free…and Sean Bell's murderers…and Ramarley Graham's killers…and yes, also Cece McDonald's jury and Marissa Alexander's jury —who debated for precisely 12 minutes before finding her guilty…and so many other similar verdicts meted out by like minded juries

Jury nullification…plain and simple

These juries all ignored the overwhelming evidence of guilt presented to them and agreed, no…they colluded to let killers get away with murder

And how many juries do the same thing with minor, non-violent, non-White drug offenders?

Jury nullification is not so uncommon as you might think. And too often it’s not the kind that stems from a desire for true justice
